Stainless Steel 316L is an austenitic stainless steel primarily made up of iron, with 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, which significantly boosts its resistance to corrosion, particularly against chlorides and acids. With a very low carbon content (≤0.03%), it minimizes carbide precipitation during welding.
