Aluminium 2024 Plates and Sheets are crafted from a heat-treatable alloy that contains about 3.8–4.9% copper, 1.2–1.8% magnesium, and 0.3–0.9% manganese, along with trace amounts of silicon, iron, and zinc. This unique blend results in remarkable strength and good fatigue resistance. The alloy typically boasts a tensile strength of 400–500 MPa and a yield strength of 250–400 MPa, depending on the temper (usually T3 or T351). Elongation falls between 10–20%. While its corrosion resistance isn’t as high as some other aluminium grades, it can be enhanced with cladding or coatings. Aluminium 2024 is also easy to machine and retains its properties after forming.
